Darren Somerville, founder of Impact Battery, reports a successful first year in 2010 for his company and the IMPACT Community Program. The program supports community charity organizations and schools. A portion of every sale is contributed to a charity or educational facility the customer chooses from a list of participating organizations.

"Impact Battery was founded on the concept of giving back to the community it serves. Our simple mission statement says it all: provide high quality batteries and chargers and have a positive impact on community. Everyone can participate simply by taking action at the point of purchase and 2010 has shown us that it works and works well," said Somerville.

Customers select which charity will receive the donation when they make a purchase. The current list of benefactor organizations includes:
  •     Doctors Without Borders
  •     Red Cross
  •     Search and Rescue
  •     Pregnancy Care Centers
  •     Boys and Girls Clubs of America
  •     National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF)
"Have a favorite charity with a 501c3 (charitable or educational organization) designation not on our list? Let us know and Impact Battery will consider enrolling your charity or school in the IMPACT Community Program. We plan to grow the program in 2011 to include even more worthy causes," according to Somerville.

"We encourage charitable organizations to receive larger contributions by linking to the Impact Battery website via the charities web page or by selling our products through their fund raising activities. The bottom line is everyone uses batteries. Why not purchase them through Impact Battery and support your favorite organization with a generous portion of the proceeds at the same time?"

The summer is over and many people will be putting away their boats for the summer, so for the life of your boat's battery, we recommend using a boat battery to keep it charged through the winter months.

Monobloc Deep Cycle Cells
6 and 12 volt deep cycle monobloc batteries, available in both Flooded and Gel formats, are also ideal for marine applications. Flooded or Wet Cells are the most common lead-acid battery types in use today. They offer the most size and design options and are built for many different uses. Suitable for electric propulsion in smaller river and lake craft, they are available in capacities from 35 to 320 ampere-hour.

Marine Battery Chargers
You can use both automatic and standard chargers for your applications. From 50Hz to High Frequency, 12v to 96v, various types of chargers are available in the market. By specifying the type of your boat to a supplier, you can find the correct charger that compliments your application needs.

How to find a reliable battery provider
There are many suppliers and manufactures in the market who offer you marine batteries. While making your selection, consider your application needs and the type and model of your boat. It is better to go to a supplier who offers batteries and chargers from various manufacturers as it will give you an opportunity to compare and select the best marine battery.

Battery chargers are devices which is used to input electrical energy into another electrical cell, or rechargeable battery. A battery charger will do this by pushing an electric current through it. Various types of rechargeable batteries will require different charge currents, which are supplied from the battery charger, therefore many different kinds of battery chargers are manufactured to supply this need. For example a marine battery, will require a different current than a motorcycle battery.

There are many different brands of battery chargers. Some brands are cheaper, while others offer more features and are more expensive. The different types of battery chargers can include Trickle charger, Fast charger, Inductive charger, Solar charger, Pulse charger, and Intelligent charger. Finding the best kind of battery charger for your need is quite simple because most chargers are specialized for very specific tasks. Because each type of battery is so different from other kinds it's likely that either a battery charger will or will not work for your type of battery. For that reason, it is important to look for a battery charger retailer that will accept returns.

As the nation is blanketed in snow and freezing temperatures there are several people realizing that what they thought were strong batteries turn out to be dead in a short amount of time. The fact is that cold weather will kill the performance of your batteries. Without regular use or regular charging schedules, batteries will lose its strength.

There are two types of vehicles that often get overlooked when it comes keeping batteries charged and powerful. First of all we have motorcycle batteries which are not ridden during the cold winter weather but when the warmer temperatures hit riders are forced to spend hundreds of dollars on new motorcycle batteries. By keeping a battery tender on your motorcycle you can keep that battery in great working order and when spring comes around you can hit the road without worry.

The other often forgotten area of battery maintenance is in wheelchairs. Wheelchair batteries are critical for those that require help when doing everyday activities like shopping and getting from place to place. When these batteries start to run low it will reduce the overall quality of the product, often giving less and less power as the battery loses power. Look for warning lights or an audible sound that warns the user that the wheelchair battery is starting to run low on power.

Gas is expensive and everyone is looking for a way to cut back on their traveling expenses. For those that live in a downtown area you can get away with walking to many of your destinations. For those that can not walk, you might find an electric scooter to be a great way to get around. No matter what kind of method you choose to get from point A to point B, the most cost efficient method is to use an electric motor rather than burning a bunch of gas. Electric scooter batteries are rechargeable and that greatly cuts down on the overall cost of travel.

If you aren't interested in using an all electric method of transportation, but you still want to cut down on gas costs, you might want to consider a motorcycle, which can ofter get over fifty miles per gallon! Motorcycles also have batteries, more specifically they have AGM batteries, which are powerful and long lasting batteries.

As with other sealed batteries there is little to no maintenance with AGMs. Even more of an advantage is that most of them are 'recombinant'. What this means is that the oxygen and hydrogen combine inside the battery during charging cycles to form water - hence very little water loss and hydrogen emission. These batteries are therefore less hazardous than their counterparts.
